Our project for the roof extension of the HEAD School of Design is, above all, about designing a functional space: a production space dedicated to learning and experimentation. Our approach follows a desire for the project to be part of the industrial continuity of the Charmilles district. What is an art and design school if not a production space? The extension was imagined as a new industrial typology: a large production hall with its living spaces and logistics spaces. This continuity manifests itself aesthetically and functionally, and also in its structural approach. A single horizontal volume aligned with the facade is added to define a new but familiar horizon line reminiscing that of the existing volume.
